Wood River girls end 31 year state tournament drought


Wood River Girls Basketball

(Wood River, NE) - Friday night the dream came true for the Wood River girls basketball team winning a C2 district title over South Loup 62-43. In a game carried on 97.3 The Wolf, the Eagles ended a long 31 year drought of a state tournament apperance in Lincoln. In fact Wood River prior to this season has only been to state two other times in the school's history. 1900 falling to Sutton 56-47 and in 1986 Wood River finished state runner up in Class B falling to Hartington Cedar Catholic 45-38 in the state title game. Wood River girls advance to state with a 24-2 record. Only losses coming to Adams Central 55-54 in overtime back on December 8th and falling to GICC on January 19th in Grand Island by a score of 43-34. Wood River recieves the two seed in the C2 field and take on seven seed BRLD from Lincoln Southeast high school on Wednesday, March 3rd at 4:00pm.
