Scheierman's Triple-Double Propels Creighton Win Over Georgetown

OMAHA, Neb. -- Baylor Scheierman delivered the first triple-double in program history featuring points, rebounds and assists to lead No. 17 Creighton to a 94-72 win over Georgetown on Tuesday, February 13.

The victory lifted the Bluejays to 18-7 on the season and 9-5 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown  fell to 8-16 overall and 1-12 in conference play.

Scheierman began the contest as a distributor, dishing out seven assists in the opening half, while he scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half. The Nebraska native's triple-double (15 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists) was the fourth in program history, but the first since Benoit Benjamin  had 29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 blocks at Bradley, on Feb. 2, 1985.

Trailing 8-6 with just over 14 minutes on the clock in the first half the two teams went on a shooting spree as Creighton connecting of a trifecta of three-pointers only for Georgetown to answer with a pair, resulting in a 15-14 Bluejay edge (11:45).

The game turned over over the next five minutes as Creighton seized control with a 13-0 run to bounce out to a 28-14 advantage (7:05). Another 7-0 surge late in the opening frame pushed the CU lead to 40-23 (3:28), while a three-pointer in the final minute from Trey Alexander send the Bluejays to the locker room with a 19-point margin at 46-27.

The second half saw Georgetown close within 14 points in the opening five minutes, but Scheierman answered the challenge with five straight points to put Creighton up 58-39 (14:32). The Bluejays went on to lead by as much as 28 at 86-58 with 4:28 left.

Alexander led Creighton with 26 points, while Ryan Kalkbrenner delivered 17 points. Scheierman closed the contest with 15 points and Steven Ashworth dropped in points for the Bluejays.

Supreme Cook led Georgetown with 19 points, while Jayden Epps finished with 17 points and Rowan Brumbaugh rounded ou the Hoyas in double figures with 11 points.

The Bluejays return to the floor on Saturday, February 17 as Creighton faces Butler in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse at 11:30 a.m. (CT) on FOX.
