Northwest Volleyball Season Preview

(Grand Island, NE) - It was the end of a magical run for the Northwest volleyball program last year as the Vikings would see their streak of state tournament appearances end at 22 with a district final loss of 3-1 at Gretna East. The Vikings ended the season with a record of 21-13. Northwest only had one returning starter from the 2022 season as Northwest had nine seniors. A part of the 2024 graduating class Northwest would lose five seniors including Brooklyn Beck, Maci Langford, Haylee Brandt, Mikyna Stoppkotte, and Kyla Sybrandts. 

Head Coach Lindsey Harders enters her 7th season for Northwest and has some key returners back from last year. Returning starting freshman setter Kenna Bowman will be the key to the planned 5-1 offense for the Vikings. Last year Northwest ran a setter system. Other returns include front-line attackers Tessa Scheer and Izzy Burhman. Also back for the black and gold is Jacey and Kelsey Knapp. 

The Vikings will open up the season with a preseason jamboree match at Fremont. The regular season start will be at the Lincoln Northeast Invitational on Saturday, August 31st.
