Jack McVeigh continued his solid Olympics performance with nine points off the bench in Australia’s 93-83 loss to Canada Tuesday morning. McVeigh came off the bench and tallied nine points on 3-of-6 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, along with two rebounds in just under 15 minutes of work.

McVeigh had back-to-back 3-pointers in the final minute of the third quarter to cut a 70-64 deficit to 72-70 heading into the fourth quarter, but Canada outscored Australia 21-13 over the final 10 minutes to improve to 2-0 in Group A.

McVeigh is averaging 11.0 ppg on 50 percent shooting, including 6-of-11 from 3-point range, and 4.5 rebounds per game in two contests for Australia.

Australia (1-1) can clinch a berth in the quarterfinals with a win over Greece on Friday. Tipoff for that contest is set for 6:30 a.m. (central)

Keisei Tominaga saw limited action in the final seconds of overtime, as Japan lost 94-90 in overtime to host France. Japan, seeking its first win in the Olympics since 1976, pushed France to the brink and led 84-80 with 16 seconds left, but Matthew Strazel's four-point with 10.6 second remaining tied the game and sent it into overtime.

Japan (0-2) will now play Brazil on Friday morning at 4 a.m. (central).
