I-80 Early Thursday Morning Accident Claims Life of California Man
(Grand Island, NE) - On Tuesday, July 28, 2022, at approximately 2:43 a.m., Hall County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Interstate 80 near mm 310 eastbound referencing a two-vehicle injury accident. Prior to arriving on the scene, Deputies were advised a secondary accident occurred at this location.
A preliminary investigation indicates a Nissan pickup pulling a U-Haul trailer, driven by Salvador Duquemoreno, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 near mm 310 when he was struck from behind by an eastbound Peterbilt semi driven by Yelena Coop. Hector Stanley Duque a 47-year-old male from California, who was a passenger in the Nissan truck, then exited his vehicle to lend aid to the driver of the Nissan, where he was struck by a passing vehicle. Hector Stanley Duque was declared deceased at the scene.
An accident reconstruction team was called to the scene to assist in the investigation, which remains open. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, Grand Island Fire Department, and the Grand Island Rural Fire Department. The interstate was closed from 3:06 am to 7:11 am during the investigation.
