Huskies' Hoopers Handle Hastings

The Aurora basketball teams took a pair of wins at Hastings last night.

Playing for the first time in 10 days, the boys held off the Tigers 41-38. After building a 10 point first quarter lead, Aurora could never put the game away. The Tigers rallied to tie it at 38 with under two minutes to go. But a free throw from Booker Sheierman gave the Huskies the lead for good. Cannon Allen hit two free throws with 18 seconds remaining. Aurora survived two Hastings three point attempts in the final 10 seconds for a fourth straight win. Sheierman scored 12 points. Kaiden Wineteer added 11 for the Huskies (8-4).

The Aurora girls overcame a slow start for a 51-43 win over the Tigers. Aurora (7-6) trailed 18-17 at the half but exploded for 19 in the third quarter and didn't trail again. Denae Nachtigal scored 20 of her game-high 24 in the second half. Adi Farhnbruch added 15, including 11 in the third quarter. Aurora is over 500 for the first time in three years after a sixth straight victory.
