Hastings Police Receives Grant

The Hastings Police Department will participate in a statewide high-visibility speed enforcement campaign from July 27 through August 9, 2026, thanks to grant funding provided through the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Highway Safety Office.

The department was awarded grant funding to support overtime enforcement efforts focused on reducing speeding-related crashes and improving safety for everyone traveling on Hastings streets.

Speeding remains one of the leading contributing factors in fatal and serious injury crashes. During the enforcement period, officers will conduct increased patrols with the emphasis on identifying and stopping drivers who exceed posted speed limits or engage in other dangerous driving behaviors.

Speed limits are established to protect everyone on the road. Slowing down gives drivers more time to react, reduces stopping distance, and greatly decreases the likelihood of serious injuries or fatalities in a crash. We encourage all motorists to obey posted speed limits and help keep our community safe.

The Hastings Police Department reminds motorists to:

Slow down in construction, school, and residential areas. 
Allow extra travel time so there is no need to rush. 
Stay alert and avoid distractions while driving.
