Coat Drive Meets 2000 Goal
St. Leo’s Parish met their coat goal of 2,000 coats to give away for their 20th annual giveaway. Volunteers met Oct. 23 in the parish hall to count and sort the coats. The final count as of noon was 2,560 coats.
The coats will be distributed free of charge to people in need on Thursday, Oct. 24.
Peachis Amadou, Outreach Coordinator at St. Leo’s Parish, said the event has been a great success over the past 19 years. As this year’s goal, recognizing the 20th anniversary of the event, Amadou set it for 2,000.
“We did it! We met our goal of 2,000 coats and that is a record,” Amadou said. “We are blessed to have such a giving community. Their generosity is what makes this event possible."
Distribution will be from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, at St. Leo’s Church, located at 2410 S. Blaine Street, Grand Island. Coats left over will be donated to the Church of Christ for its free clothing give-away.
