City of Grand Island Snow Emergency Extended

Grand Island, Neb. — Due to an ongoing winter storm in the Grand Island area, the city will be extending its Snow Alert/Emergency until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18.

Remember, during a Snow Alert/Emergency, no vehicles may be parked on the city’s snow emergency routes. The routes can be identified by the red, white and blue snow emergency signs posted every few blocks on these streets. A map of snow emergency routes is available at the City of Grand Island website at www.grand-island.com/snowemergencyroutes.

The Grand Island Police Department continue checking for illegally parked vehicles until the emergency expires. Parked and/or abandoned vehicles on emergency routes are subject to being towed away.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to limit traveling until the inclement weather subsides and the streets are cleared. Residents are reminded that snowplows may throw snow onto curb sidewalks and driveways. The Street Department formally advises residents not to shovel curb sidewalks or driveways until the streets have been cleared of snow.
