City of GI Closing 13th for Roundabout Construction

The City of Grand Island Public Works Department is announcing 13th Street will be closed on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 between Diers Avenue and Cedar Ridge Court. Business driveways between Diers Avenue and the Claude Road corridor will be open during construction, east of the construction zone. 13th Street is tentatively planned to be closed until November 2024. State Street and Claude Road roundabout will be open at the same time.

The project includes new construction of Claude Road from 13th Street to State Street. The project will consist of a concrete curb and gutter, 3-lane, 41’ wide roadway section. Two roundabouts will be constructed with this project and include the intersections of Claude Road and 13th Street and Claude Road and State Street. The project will also include storm sewer construction, sidewalk/bike trail improvements and water main adjustments.

On December 5, 2023, City Council awarded the construction contract to Diamond Engineering Company of Grand Island, Nebraska for $4,338,004.15.
